In a response to the critics, Microsoft announced they are taking into consideration the complaints of the users, but they won’t drop the new ribbon interface, as they hope that, in the end, everyone will accept it as it is.
Ilana Smith, Microsoft Engineering System team Manager, strengthens the affirmations one more time and, in a press release published on MSDN, explains some of the optimization of the Windoes Explorer component introduced in the first official Windows 8 beta version, which will become available for the public in February. In the release, Smith mentioned that despite the large number of complaints over the ribbon-based interface, Microsoft will definitely keep it in the final version of the Windows 8 OS, reminding the unhappy users that some applications developed outside Microsoft are available on the market, capable of offering the advanced users an experience to suite their needs.
Meanwhile, the over 2,000 comments regarding the Windows Explorer version included in Windows 8 Developer Preview made the Redmond-based software giant make some important UI changes. First up, they decided to keep the ribbons minimized by default, in order to make the interface look cleaner. The beginners and those who find the ribbon-based interface too uncomfortable or inefficient can use hotkeys to perform a certain action, as they are displayed by default when you place the mouse over the elements in the menu.
The “Sync your settings” tool now integrates more Windows Explorer options, thus applying your favorite settings on more than one Windows 8-powered PC should now be easier than ever.
The dialogue box that pops up to solve conflicts was also changed. Starting with the new Windows 8 beta version, you can now choose which files to keep and which to drop if a conflict occurs, as you will be able to filter them based on name, size and time. The way the copy / cut process after the PC wakes up from stand by, reboots or turned is resumed was also changed.
The complete list of the changes brought to the file management system in Windows 8 Beta is way bigger and you can check it by clicking on the source link bellow which will direct you to the article posted on MSDN.
