Coming soon – Ubuntu on your phone

Free desktop OS coming to an Android phone near you.

The days of you tugging around a laptop with you may be coming to an end. Ubuntu announced a new initiative to launch Ubuntu for Android, which will make the desktop OS available for multi-core Android phones.
Once docked, Ubuntu for Android lets you use your phone as a regular PC, and bundles with common Ubuntu applications such as VLC, Chromium, Thunderbird, and Google Docs. When Ubuntu is running, users will receive desktop notifications for incoming calls and messages, and can answer or dismiss them without even touching the phone.
With over 20 million users so far, Ubuntu has become the fastest growing open-source operating system to date, and bundles in several versions from the home enthusiast right up to server-grade architecture. At the moment the project is looking for interested manufacturers and partners to work alongside the Ubuntu team, but you can read more details here.
