It’s called…GFACE.
Crytek is all set to launch its own online service, the Crysis developer announced today. From the looks of it, it will be a mix-mash of a variety of existing services such as Facebook, Twitter, Battlelog, and OnLive.
The only problem, other than the obvious monetary/acceptance ones, is its name. It’s called GFACE, and we are not sure how any self-respecting gamer can take that with any seriousness.
Regardless, it is something of interest: the service allows to stream games from your browser, much like OnLive. However, Crytek has put an interesting twist to it. As seen in the media shot pasted below, players can join a single game from either the PC, smartphone or tablet, with each player commanding different roles (Soldier, Support, etc.)
GFACE also has a unified friend list with video chat built-in. Users can also share text and other media like Facebook and Twitter with an interface reminiscent of DICE’s Battlelog. The service will be entirely browser-based.
GFACE is currently in close beta. Crytek has not yet mentioned a launch date.
