ViewSonic Planning to Jump on Windows 8 Tablet Bandwagon

Count ViewSonic among the manufacturers who fully intend to build a tablet or two around Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system, though a launch in the U.S. might depend on how many Windows 8 tablets ViewSonic is able to sell in Taiwan. Max Liu, product marketing director of ViewSonic Asia Pacific, reportedly confirmed a Windows 8 tablet is in the company's cards and that it would ship in the second quarter of 2012 at the earliest.

We suspect a fourth quarter launch is more likely, considering Windows 8 isn't supposed to ship until much later this year. Either way, Liu says the Windows 8 model will feature a 10-inch display, but offered up no other details, DigiTimes reports.

Liu was also quick to note that the ViewPad 10 is the first model to support both Windows 7 and Android in the local market over in Taiwan. ViewSonic's tablet resume also includes the ViewPad 10pro, ViewPad 7e, ViewPad 7, and ViewBook 730, all of which run Android (the 10 and 10pro also run Windows 7).

Update

"ViewSonic expects Windows 8 in the market the second half of 2012, not the second quarter, and the company is working on a Windows 8 tablet solution to hit the market in the same timeframe," said a ViewSonic representative.
